  • Registration Terms

The registration fee is due upon enrollment and is non-refundable. Tuition rates are determined by the funds needed to operate the preschool. Payments, for parent convenience, are based on ten equal payments. Payment is not determined by the number of days classes are anticipated to meet in any particular month; rather the tuition is determined by the amount needed to operate the preschool as a whole for the school year. Failure to pay tuition payments and fees may result in your child losing their preschool placement.

There are three options for paying preschool tuition.

    Option 1

Monthly payments are due on the 1st of each month, beginning on August 1. Subsequent tuition payments will be made from August 1 through May 1. There will be 10 total monthly payments.

    Option 2

The yearly tuition can be divided in half and paid in two installments. The first half of the tuition will be due on August 1. The second half will be due by January 1.

    Option 3

Parents are welcome to pay the yearly tuition in full. The yearly payment will be due on August 1.

*A sibling discount of 20% is applied to the lowest tuition for families with two or more children enrolled in the preschool. Please see the preschool Administrator for the correct payment amount when enrolling two or more children.

Two-Year-Old to Pre-K Programs

Our learning program provides young learners with access to manipulatives that encourage thinking and problem solving, allow for the sharing of thoughts and ideas, and motivate learners to share their creativity, curiosity, and talents with others. Our learning programs provide opportunities for learners to develop intellectually, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. These programs present learners with activities that encourage dramatic play, creativity, experimentation, manipulation, cooperation, and socialization. A typical preschool day consists of circle time, center time, small group time, music and movement, outdoor play, story time, and snack time.

Beyond ABCs: Our Kindergarten Program

The kindergarten curriculum has been developed to prepare your student for the transition to first grade. Graduates of this program will leave with a complete portfolio, including report cards. The program is registered with the Delaware Department of Education as a private school. This whole-student approach to kindergarten embraces students as individual learners and works to achieve individualized goals designed to meet students where they are in the learning process. Our kindergarten friends gain a foundation that prepares and familiarizes them with the programs and technologies used in public schools. More importantly, it embraces the preschool aspects of learning through hands-on activities and incorporates fun, parties, and celebrations that kindergarteners deserve to experience in education as well. Don't wait; register today!

Stay & Play at Our After-School Program

The Stay & Play program is available from 11:30 to 1:00, and the cost is $6.00/day. Participants are required to bring a packed lunch for this program. The children will enjoy an activity session in the gym or outside (weather permitting), eat lunch, and participate in free play and centers. Please be sure to include ice packs in your child's lunch box because lunches will not be stored in a refrigerator. Also, be sure to label your child's lunchbox with their name!! Stay and Play punch cards can be purchased for 5 or 10 sessions at a time.

The programs offer an extended school day for children as well as an opportunity for parents to accomplish things for themselves while their preschoolers are still at school and having fun! At the conclusion of the regular school day, your child's teacher will walk the children staying for the after-school programs to meet one of the after-school teachers. At the conclusion of the extended day, please be sure to arrive on time to pick up your child.

To register your child for the program, you will need to let your child's teacher know that he or she is staying. Pre-purchase your punch card, and you're on your way! See Mrs. Murphy for questions about your punch card. Payment must be received at the time of sign-up. Checks should be made payable to St. John's Preschool.

Policies & Procedures

Click on the tabs below to learn more about our school's policies and program requirements.

  • Preschool Policy Manual

Our Preschool Policy Manual is a great document to learn all about the policies and procedures of the preschool. The new manual reflects a lot of new policy changes due to COVID-19.

A copy will be shared with each preschool family at the beginning of the school year, but feel free to use the link below to download the manual at anytime.

Click here to download the manual.

  • Health & Safety Requirements

All students enrolled at St. John's Preschool must have a current health appraisal on file within one month of enrollment that includes the following items:

    • A health history
    • A physical examination
    • Growth and development
    • Recommendations regarding required medication, restrictions or modifications of the child's activities, diet, or care
    • Medical information pertinent to treatment in case of an emergency
    • Documentation of any recommended or required screening or testing, such as for blood-lead or tuberculosis
    • Documentation of immunizations

Click here to download the health appraisal form.

  • Stay & Play Program Requirements

To register your child for the program, you will need to let your child's teacher know that he or she is staying. Pre-purchase your punch card, and you're on your way! See Mrs. Murphy for questions about your punch card. Payment must be received at the time of sign-up. Checks should be made payable to St. John's Preschool.

One other important thing to note:

    • In order to participate in our after-school program, all tuition payments must be up-to-date.
    • We ask that children who participate in this program be potty-trained due to the fact that we house the program in a room that has no bathroom. If a staff member were to have to leave the classroom for an extended period of time to change a child, it would leave the rest of the class short-staffed.

If you have any questions about our after-school program, please let me know. We are looking forward to having a very successful after-school program this year! Your children will have a ball cooking, playing, singing, dancing, creating, and learning in the afternoons at St. John's Preschool!

We look forward to spending lots of afternoons with your child!

  • What programs do you offer?

    Two Year Old Program: 2 days/week (M-Th) 9:00-11:30

This program is designed for students who are two years old or turning three during or after the school year. This program has a heavy focus on a child’s first preschool experience. Children gain independence and confidence through learning to say goodbye and knowing that mom or dad will return shortly. Children learn through songs, fingerplays, and hands-on activities that are developmentally appropriate for this age group. The main focus of this program is for students and parents to love their first school experience.

    Three Year Old Program: 3 days/week (T-Th) 9:00-11:30

This program is designed for students who are three at the start of the year and will turn four some time during or after the school year. Our three- to four-year-old students have higher expectations, with more emphasis on letter and number recognition. Their circle time is longer and their activities are designed to meet their needs at this developmental stage. All of our classes participate in art, dramatic play and outdoor play daily.

    Pre-Kindergarten Program: 4 days/week (M-Th) 9:00-1:00

This program is designed for students who are four at the start of the school year and will turn five. These students will be working towards kindergarten readiness. There is a greater emphasis on letter recognition as these friends move into identifying and blending sounds to start the reading process. The program is designed for students to learn in small group rotations that cover reading, handwriting, STEM, art, technology and independence. The goal of this program is to have students ready for the rigors of kindergarten.

    Kindergarten: 4 days/week (M-Th) 9:00-1:00

This program is new to SJP and is designed for students who are 5 at the start of the year. Students engage in a print-rich curriculum that meets and exceeds the DE learning standards. It is an accelerated program designed to prepare students for their entry into first grade in all areas of learning.

  • Is St. John's Preschool & Kindergarten licensed?

St. John’s Preschool is a state-licensed preschool that meets all standards for children’s health, safety, and well-being. The Delaware Office of Childcare Licensing (OCCL) is responsible for setting these standards. The license is obtained by the OCCL and is renewed annually. A copy of the license is displayed in the preschool office.

The primary goal of St. John’s Preschool is to operate as a school for young children, not a daycare center.

  • How can I contact you?

You can call us at 302-629-2289. You can email us at stjohnspreschool123@gmail.com. You can also send us a message via our contact form.

If you would like to visit us in person, we are at 300 N Pine St, Seaford, DE 19973.

  • Is the Kindergarten class being offered again this year?

Yes!  Kindergarten is being offered and will remain a state-registered private school.  Also, we are looking to expand our kindergarten space!  Stay tuned for further updates regarding this project.

  • Are there age requirements for each class/age group?

Yes.  St. John’s Preschool follows the Seaford School District’s guidelines for entry into kindergarten.  Students in the 2 y/o class must be 2 by August 31, 2023.  Students in the 3–4 year old class must be 3 by August 31, 2023.  Students in the Pre-K classes must be 4 by August 31, 2023.  If your child was admitted prior to the registration process and is not currently in the appropriate class, he or she can continue on the path that he or she is on.  Your child’s teachers will discuss your plans for these circumstances at parent conferences.

  • Will there be staffing changes next year?

Very few things in life are guaranteed, but with 100% certainty, I can tell you that there will be some sort of staffing changes.  We work hard to retain our employees and to have low turnover, but some things are not under our control.  Staff members leave for a multitude of reasons.  Sometimes personal events happen that change a staff member’s circumstances, and the part-time employment that St. John’s Preschool offers them no longer suits their needs.  We do hope all of our staff come back next year.  What we can guarantee to you, as parents, is that all new staff members will meet the requirements set by the DE State Office of Childcare Licensing or will take the appropriate means to become certified.  Also, the staff-to-student ratio is set by the state, and we always abide by those guidelines.

  • Can I request a specific teacher for my child?

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a specific teacher, but we do try to accommodate your requests.  You may note a request on the first page of your packet.

  • Can I pick up a registration packet for a friend or family member? Can I register my friend?

Yes!  Extra registration packets will be available by asking your child’s teacher or visiting Mrs. Murphy’s office.  We would love for you to invite your family and friends to join the SJP family.  Yes, you may send someone else to register your child for you.

  • If my student is currently enrolled in a Pre-K program but does not meet the cutoff date for Kindergarten and I would like him/her to repeat Pre-K, is that possible?

Absolutely!  Mrs. Murphy will send packets home with all students not meeting the cutoff date for kindergarten.  Your student is permitted to attend kindergarten in our program if he or she does not meet the August 31st cut off.  Talk to Mrs. Murphy about that option.

  • What is the process for registering my student? Do I need to arrive earlier than 9:00 AM?

Traditionally, families that have had a specific need (for example, M/W or T/Th 2-year-old classes) have planned to arrive at the beginning of registration.  There is no need to arrive early or stand in line this year for the prekindergarten class.  There is a spot for all of our students moving into pre-k and kindergarten.

  • Will registration fees and tuition be increased this year?

Yes. A more in-depth explanation will be sent home, but the operating expenses of the preschool have increased, thus forcing us to increase our operational budget.  Also, the State of Delaware is instituting a minimum wage hike. The budget proposed will reflect those increases as well.

  • When can I expect to receive a packet for registration?

Registration packets will be sent home with all students at the beginning of February.  Printing of the packets is currently on hold until the 2023-2024 budget is approved by the SJUMC Finance Committee.  This is scheduled for the end of January.  Once tuition and registration fees have been approved, packets will come home with students.  Look for packets in your child’s backpack at the beginning of February.

  • What is the difference between “In-House” and Public Registration?

In-House Registration is for families currently enrolled in St. John’s Preschool.  Public registration opens the process for new families that do not have current students.  Having two different registrations gives our current families the opportunity to register for the class that they prefer first.
